Change to Schedule Made in Response to Positive Customer Feedback following Summer Trial Period

Effective immediately, NJ TRANSIT has increased weekday peak period service on Newark Light Rail’s Broad Street Extension to allow trains to operate every 10 minutes. The 10-minute headways will operate from approximately 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. each weekday.

This follows positive customer feedback on a trial of the enhanced service conducted this past summer during Amtrak track work at Penn Station New York.

NJ TRANSIT implemented the 10-minute intervals, known as headways, between Broad Street and Newark Penn Stations during peak hours in conjunction with service adjustments to the Morris & Essex, and Montclair Boonton lines from June 17 to September 6. Customer feedback was so positive that NJ TRANSIT’s Light Rail leadership decided to incorporate the enhanced service into the regular weekday schedule by staffing the required number of light rail operators so it would not negatively impact other service.
